Access, Not Ability

Sunday Writing Invitation

Today’s invitation isn’t about writing well.
It’s about opening a door.

We often assume that if writing feels difficult, we need more skill, more discipline, more effort. But very often, what we need is access — a way past the thinking mind and into something quieter and truer.

This invitation is designed to lower the stakes.

The Invitation

Set a timer for 5 minutes.

At the top of the page, write:

“What’s trying to come through right now is…”

Do not try to finish the sentence.

Let it remain open.

Write whatever follows — fragments, repetition, uncertainty, contradiction.
If you feel the urge to explain or justify, gently return to the sentence.

When the timer ends, stop — even if you’re mid-thought.

A Gentle Reminder

This isn’t a piece of writing.
It’s a point of access.

You don’t need to make sense of what appears.
You don’t need to keep it.
You don’t need to improve it.

The act of listening is the work.

Closing

Writing doesn’t always ask us to be better.
Sometimes it simply asks us to be available.

You’re welcome to close the notebook when you’re done — or leave it open and return later.

The invitation has already done its job.
